Project

In the movie Inception is just like the movie the Matrix. They both leave you into this world that is beyond this dimension. As you are put to sleep you are dreaming of things you are not able to do in real life. As you are asleep you can travel to different places, fight guys, have an enormous amount of power and its hard to die from that world.
In Hollywood there are many techniques that make something seem real but has not been identified as something that is real to us. Many people believe that there is another world beyond this world we live in which to me is absolutely insane. There is no factual evidence to support that idea therefore, there can not be any place beyond this real world. This is our reality we can use imagination but not take it far as believing what you see on television and movies.
Technology affects the way we think. As far as these Hollywood movies people have syndromes of believing they are in another world becoming like spider man and want to jump off walls or etc and end up hurting them selves. People try to invent things they've seen on TV and see if it really works for example a time machine to travel has any one accomplished such a thing not really. This relates to the movie if people believe everything they see on television then everyone would become insane and realize that that reality is not what they thought it was.

Today was a long day at school as usually. Started from 11:45 till 7:45 with only one break. It was the day of the Cat Exam. I left early from my accounting class to make sure I get to my exam early to relax and remember everything my professor has taught us through this semester. Luckily before I went to class I grabbed a twix because my stomach was bothering me like always.
As soon as the proctor came in I started become nervous, all these thoughts kept running through my head basically my voice of criticism told me I'm not going to pass I'm going to fail. But as I got the prompt I started to become less nervous because it was on how technology has been a huge impact on society and I'm thinking to myself, why hello we've doing this all semester long why worry. Before a test I'm always worrying when I know I should do fine since all the practice exams I passed them. I start to read the prompt then do my outline so I can have my thoughts organized therefore, my essay can turn out GREAT and finally I start my essay I fly through it. I thought it was a piece of cake.
Right as soon as I finished I rushed out with confidence that I passed. Hopefully I did. Now all I can do is wait for the results which makes me more stressed but I just got to wait.

Many Devices today can affect our way of thinking. Everything from electronics is made easy for us to use. Texting, browsing the web and television has been very affective kind of like an addiction to us. I believe Google is one website that a lot of us use intensively because we find what we need to find, I use it all the time for research papers and I also believe it’s a type of website or tool that we cannot stop using just like any other website or electronic.
In the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?’ the author Nicholas Carr states that by searching in Google doesn’t help our brains we need to think strongly about that specific information. Brain scientists have exposed that when our minds are calm we think deeper. Google is a search engine that gives you about any information you may type in and not only one website many websites you can look at on that topic that you typed in. Since there is less concentration we find out less and retain information less.
I personally use Google everyday from looking up an address to a location, places to shop, or even to get information about a topic. I thought it was a very helpful search engine. Everything you can possibly imagine you can find on Google. I probably use it around 10 times a day just to look something up for me it’s kind of like YouTube. On YouTube you can type in how to do this to that and find a million results. Searching the web is very helpful. Like the author states it doesn’t make us more intelligent it just helps us get information because we are not using our brain to think deeply of information.
We cannot stop using the internet or any type of electronic device it is like our addiction. My I Phone is something I cannot live without. In the I phone there’s we have Facebook, text messaging, apps for games, even internet to search the web for example Google. My battery never lasts long because it’s something I ‘am very addicted to. However this can be a bad thing even though the web can be helpful but using my phone every minute of the day to play games or go on Facebook doesn’t leave me for anytime to do my important things from school work, to cleaning, spending time with friends family, and even doing what I love most is baking.
Therefore, Google is good to keep handy and look to search something up but doesn’t help you learn on your own. Besides only Google there’s other websites or things that take you away from reality which is a flaw for us.

Is obesity and technology taking over the new generation? Teenagers are brought into this generation of new technology every day. Therefore, this makes teenagers lazy and can cause obesity by not doing anything but playing with their phones or sitting on the couch on the computer. I believe parents are the ones to blame because they should enforce their children with rules to separate school work from social websites, and putting them in sports and letting them go outdoors to prevent obesity.
In the article “Rewired” the author Larry Rosen states that most teens spend a lot of time on technology than completing their school work which also can lead to health problems and failing grades. From the authors own experience he sees a cycle from working with families of kids starting their work then doing other activities then going back to their work. This generation is brought by technology therefore, this is their social life and how they build up.
Parents and teachers should be the ones to blame. Teachers first of all, should make learning fun by creating blogs, games etc. Parents on the other hand should put limits on how long you can go on Facebook, MySpace, etc. until it’s time to get to work. I agree with the author Larry Rosen because of the point he made about the cycle. When people start doing something important and stop to do some other activity and get back to work. This relates to my own personal experience. I start off doing my essay for class then take a mini break by going on Facebook or to eat something. That little break I took becomes multiple breaks. I either end up falling asleep late from completing it or not even completing it.
Obesity can be caused by too much technology. As this teenage generation becomes more associated with electronic devices the more they become lazy. When you are focused on seeing someone’s page on Facebook or even just sitting down being locked in on the television can cause us to be so lazy that we don’t want to get up to make ourselves something healthy to eat. We either could order in or just grab the quickest snack which would most likely be unhealthy.
Overall, technology and obesity is taking over the new generation. Parents can put a stop to this epidemic especially for their sons/daughters health. It is part of their social life but by setting some ground rules it can help them pass their classes and go to do outdoor activities.

The author has great examples in her essay, especially the one with her mom on the phone while driving. Their word choice is very strong except for the word "dumb". But their are some areas that need improvement, her summarizing is almost there but needs more supporting ideas. There should be an introduction stating your claims to be introduced in your body paragraphs. As her claim could be multitasking can be very harmful to people and children because of ..... then you can give your examples and causes of why you believe that.

Food Industries have become very affective in today’s society. Over the past years Fast Food Industries such as McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, Taco bell, etc, have developed in most areas everyday in the United States. As these Corporations grow our health becomes more in risk as we consume those products. I believe unhealthy foods should increase their price as for healthy foods should decrease their price, as a result, lessening the number of obesity and creating a healthy society.

In the article” Let Them Eat Fat,” Greg Critser states that Fast Food corporations target the poor and young teenagers. The poor has an increasing appeal to cheap meals like the fast food industries than home cooked meals. Those organizations locate more towards a lower income area. Teenagers are consuming more calories than there suppose to in a day. The huge supersize meals are more available creating their physical activity to decrease.

The government should be the one to blame to making America increasing in obesity. They should aware us to what happens to the animals, what goes into the food we consume. By reading Fast Food Nation I found out plenty of things that made me disgusted with Fast Food corporations. For example the use a special chemical for a sent that they put on their food also is put in perfume products. Also most of their food is artificial and processed. I believe on way in solving our economy is by increasing the cost of unhealthy foods and decreasing the cost of healthy foods. Therefore, low income families could be able to buy healthy meals to put on the table. Also, creating more stands of fruits, vegetables, and butcher shops more convenient in poor areas.

In the movie “Supersize Me” is a great example on how these fast food corporations are taking over our bodies and minds. He went from being a healthy person to eating McDonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a few weeks. As he started to eat he became tired, unhealthy, obese, and less intimate with his wife. We can see from this movie that if he didn’t stop he would’ve developed terrible damages towards his health.

Furthermore, the government should take charge and be concerned in America’s health. By putting a tax or a law to fast food we can change this society and make a difference to people’s health. Why wait till it’s too late we should start now.

Blog 3.4:The Meatrix

Summary#1
In this short clip called “The Meatrix” illustrates how covetous agriculture corporations are using family farms to boost their revenue by hurting animals. Animals become harmed in cramped places causing fights and infections to spread easily. The corporations also overdose the animals with antibiotics. The antibiotics are to keep them alive. Pollution is another major issue because the air and water are filled with the manure which can cause a sickness. Communities of people are highly affected by the air in that area.

Summary#2
In the “The Meatrix: Revolting,” states that people can stop the corporations of harming animals by making healthier choices or even going to a small family farm to get their dairy necessities. For the past two years people have made more improved selections to help close down these fast food Industry. Corporations inject cows with artificial growth hormones. Also, calves that are separated from their mother at birth are fed dead cows blood basically something to replace the milk. This can cause mad cow disease.

Summary#3
In the “Meatrix II ½,” states how speed is the key to the profit the Industries make to the fast food nation. The meat packing Industry is one of the most dangerous jobs. Workers have injured themselves by the speed which increases the profit for the business. The Company can process about 5,000 cows in a day. The manure of the cow’s leaks down to the cut processed meat which causes E-Coli.

Technology has expanded throughout the past years. As it becomes more developed with more high tech inventions, people become emotionally involved to each type of technology. I believe technology has changed society in several ways by harming videos, and upset my own friend’s life too.
In the article, “The Net Is The Real World,” by Jake Simms and Larry Magid states that technology can have an effect on people in diverse ways. For example he says One of Rutgers students had placed a webcam in his room when one of their friends asked if it was okay if he used it for the night. Sooner or later clementi found out that they had sent out a video of him in the room with another man. He had sent out a farewell message on facebook leading him to jumping off the George Washington Bridge. Technology was involved with the act for this young man’s death. According to the author, people say or do things in cyberspace that they would not say or do in a face to face conversation. Bullies in school can see their victim suffer but online buddies do not know how much they are tormented.
People expose themselves either by accident or by wanting to do it for the fun of it. Most teenagers now a day’s sent out naked pictures to guys or girls. This is a very disturbing situation. By having these high tech programs to do these possessions, can cause guys to send it out to the world. Also, girls have no respect for themselves by sending out a picture to a guy that they know little about. Some celebrities also made their fame through sex tapes like for example Kim Kardashian. This affects teenagers to wanting to do them same thing to make them become famous and make them rich.
One of my friends from high school was caught in a situation just like Clementis. She meets this guy who she thought was very nice and cool. One day when she went over his house he was videotaping her as she was getting dressed. He sent it to out to most of his friends to see. As she had no idea about it one of the girls from school had comforted her and said that there’s a sex video going around school. All she did was burst out in tears. Later teachers found out and the guy never got into trouble which was unfair for her, although, he explained to everybody that it wasn’t a sex video she had her clothes on underneath a blanket. I still wish I could say something for my friend or for any girl who is in a situation like that.
Furthermore, technology can be positive or a negative thing but as we get to see more dangerous situations like these we start to question it. Why do people use technology in negative ways do we have to but a band to technology or set rules?

Blog Entry 3.2

Technology is like an addiction. It can be compared to a man addicted to cigarettes, one you start you cannot stop. This can be a very effective aspect to our society. In some cases technology can be also very helpful in case of emergencies or just the case of looking up something in the internet for a project. I believe technology can be very bad because teenagers are most targeted to electronics, therefore, this is our reality and it separates us from the real world, but also personal electronic devices can have its benefits.
“The Cyborg Advantage” by Clive Thompson is an article that illustrates how technology is taking most humans attention. The author states “Each new technology will extend our reach while threatening to swallow even more of attention”. By opening all these activities: Facebook, MySpace, Aim, online games, etc, has created less time for other activities such as; sports, spending time with your family, maybe even just taking a walk. It’s exactly like what the author says we are depending on the assistance from the computer to think and socialize.
Teenagers are most affected by technology. There mind has been taken over the social networks. Interacting online through these websites is their activity. Instead of playing a sport or going out, they are wasting their at home on the computer. It can also be a very dangerous obsession. For example, one young man thought he was talking to a girl on Facebook. A couple days later he told her to come to his house so they can meet. At the end it was two guys who shot him at his door. From using these websites you don’t know who you are talking too and if they see who they say they are is even true?
We all relay on technology. This is our reality. We cannot see anything past our high tech phones, television and computers. As we depend on these devices we start to become addicted to them. As I said before it’s like a smoker. Once they start and get use to the cigarette they crave it more and more which relates to how we are addicted to technology. There is nothing pass the importance of being able to contact our friends, check our email, watch the new television show that is going to premiere tonight. Technology has taken over humans day by day without us noticing.
Overall, Technology is a major issue. If we were able to stop being so depended on technology I think we should take action and stop now. Even though, it may be hard but just think if we use up to much energy one day we will be without any use of electronics what will happen then?

Celebrities have now lived the idea of the "prefect body". What does this me? Most celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, etc. have that ideal body that everyone else would die for and the body's that most men are attract to. Basically with their fame and money creates the power of surgery. For example Nicki Minaj one of the most listened to female hip hop artists has the ideal "perfect body". Well as you can see in her before picture nobody really knew her, and her body was I guess you could say normal. Once her money started to come she started getting plastic surgery, breasts, but implants, the whole nine yards. This made her the name barbie.

Plastic Surgery affects many people to believe that is the only way to have the perfect body is it was not god given to you. But this also means you are fake, nothing on you is real. All of us yes would love to have those wonderful curves some are lucky some are not. Even though, there are other ways you can stay fit and do other attempts to get that body. Having lots of money also effects us knowing whats their own made up reality. Which to them is right.

For many years the food corporations has been keeping a lot of secrets from us. One of our biggest issues is obesity and not being able to stay away from either fast foods or just food in gene rel. But do we know the process of what's happening to our food? The significance to this movie is how we are noticed to our own world of not knowing what's the truth for so many years. We are us to be lied to and just kept in this bubble. The government knows how ten billion a year of animals are being torched and killed.

Also, the government has not enforced us with the idea the produce which is cloning animals. Animal cloning has been experimented from scientists for many years. Basically, they are torching our animals with drugs to make the produce gain weight so us humans can be happy. I adore food but why hasn’t the government at least tried to do these procedures in a healthier matter or less dangerous. This relates to how we have been adapted to thinking the food we eat is healthy but in reality they are putting many chemicals into the animals that we eat which can cause both the animal and us humans death.

Teenagers now a days spend more time on the computer interacting with other teenagers, or peers instead of exploring the world with their peers or family. As the technology is increasing more and more there are several things teens can be able to do online which are; social networks, downloading music, and games, Therefore, there's less interactions with the world.
In this imagie towards the left, shows a skeleten smoking a cigarete while on the computer. This is in comparision to how smoking is an addiction and how teenagers, and adults on the internet can become an addiction. There are many social networks there are facebook, myspace, aim, etc. By having so many sources to be entertained by there's no need to be involved with anything else outside the world of "computer" or shall I say technology.

Most people that become addictated to the internet are teenagers. They become lazy, less focused on the important issues in life, and etc. Espically from the real world of homework, playing sports and otherwise. For me the internet is an addiciton, However, I'am able to control my limit from using the computer to walking around and interferring with outside the world of internet.

bLog 2.2:

What is this new illness called the Truman Syndrome? It is a delusion of patients who believe their life is on a reality show. This can be caused by paranoia, or just something you develop. Even though, many people believe there life is on a TV show. How does this relate to TV shows, can this really be a new illness that makes technology have more power over us humans, or can this be just like Socrates’ and Plato’s Allegory?
According to the author, the “Truman Syndrome, is an interesting example of the connection between culture and mental health.” Why is that? Some scientists believe that patients find themselves living in an actual movie. For example, Vaughan Bell, a psychologist said one of his patients believe he was living the matrix which is a movie that came out in 1999. People find themselves in an illusion; therefore, they cannot separate the idea of what is reality and what is not.
How does this relate to TV shows? Most viewers of any kind of show either romance, mystery, etc, find themselves either able to relate to the series or even being able to relive that moment which aired on TV. Does this make them crazy? Not really, this illness called the Truman syndrome is just another fancy word, and also another project to focus on for scientists. We might think there is something wrong with a person who believes there the karate kid and starts coming out trying to act like a warrior. That may be a little crazy but it’s just using your imagination and I believe they are taking it to extreme by calling it a syndrome, unless someone thinks he/she is Michael Myers and starts killing people then we have a problem.
Does this relate to technology having too much power over us humans? Every day of our lives we use a lot of electricity. By watching too much TV can cause us to be in this illusion of their own reality. If this is a so called syndrome the main conception to that is technology. Humans viewing all these lifestyles even if there shows or movies, makes something tick in our head that this is something we need. By us not having what we see we tend to want to live that so we can imagine we are that person or can do these things.
The Truman Show is a movie about a guy named Truman Burbank, who wakes up every morning on television, but he is not aware of that. He starts to realize that his whole life is a lie even the people he thought was his friends and family are just actors. He cannot figure reality to unreal life. In comparison to the Truman show is the Allegory of Socrates and Plato. In their Allegory, there were prisoners who were kept in a cave and it was pitch black. They only were able to saw projections of shadows against the wall of the cave through fire. As one was let go, he visualized a whole new world. Nobody believed him when he came back to the cave they couldn’t recognize him or believe what he was saying. This relates to the syndrome. They both face this fake life style and see what is outside of their box. As soon as they saw what was outside they didn’t want know what to believe and thought they were crazy.
Overall, The Truman syndrome can be a ill sickness as scientist say. In both the allegory and the Truman show can relate of being faced with not classifying what’s reality and what isn’t.

My Positvie archetype is being a warrior. A strong women who believes in her rights and is very ambisious. A warrior archetype is a part of ourselves that protects emotinal bounderies and asserts our needs in the world. Theres energy to see through and stand against mass illusions of our time. Which we lived out our passion. For an example, I choose this propaganda of a women with mussels and a wrag over here head. Now during this time was when women where defined as house women, they werent allowed to vote,or go particapte in war. As this picture shows we can be house women but also do what men do, and be treated as equal. After a couple of years women achieved their goal was able to vote and do some things in the force field like for example they needed nurses, drive ariplanes but not anything to dangeruous which was fight in wars only assist. Furthermore, this is very symboic to being a warrior. The women had their needs and their emotinal bounderies which stood by them ever momment.

My second positive archetype is Innocent. This means I'am full of trust, faith and optimism. We have high ideals, aspirations. We tend to want to do things right to be a leader and be able to help others by making a contribution to the world. We are kind of like a coach or a guide full of good motives.

Blog entry 1.4: Truman Show

What is "The Truman Show" based on? Basically, the main character Jim Carey who plays Truman Burbank, lives his entire life in front of cameras. His everyday life including home, work, and anything in between is caught on camera. He is the star of his own reality show. There are cameras conveniently placed everywhere, following his every move.
Truman is unaware of what is going on in his surroundings, until one day when he is made aware of the fact that he is being filmed and is the star of his own show. He becomes paranoid looking at his surroundings not being able to distinguish reality from movie. He feels he can trust no one so he immediately feels compelled to escape. He runs off to discover an entire world that he was unaware of because he was trapped in his own world. He finds peace in a small town where no one really knows that he is a star of a reality TV show. The people get to know him for himself and he can finally appreciate a true relationship.
In the Allegory of Socrates' and Plato there were several prisoners who believed there was nothing else in the world but their shadows. They visualized this through fire but the prisoners believed that was all that ever existed. As one prisoner escaped, he walked out of the cave he could not open his eyes, it was his first time experiencing this bright light blaming towards his face. This took him time to see that this was a totally different life than what he was use to. He came out to reality but could not believe his eyes.
These two stories are in comparison of one another. Both faced a point in their lives where the realized what they were experiencing each and everyday was a lie. As the found there way out of the box, they realized how they were played and when they came back to their old lifestyles nobody wanted to believe that what one man had seen was the truth or basically a whole new dimension. When they have been lied to their whole life, and realized that nobody wants to help them they continue with what they have had. They do not want that new life, well reality, what life is to them is the same routine their use to even though they were lied to for many years.
Overall, The Truman Show holds a lot of character and forbidden issues. For example of the way his peers kind of had him in a containment where he did not know why. Till this moment we will never know why people do such harsh cruelty on others for no specific reason. At the end it makes us believe they are crazy or in denial.

blog1.3: My Place in the cave

According to Socrates, “the world of knowledge the ides of good appears last of all, and is seen only with an effort; and, when seen, is also inferred to be the universal author of all things beautiful and right, parent of light and of the lord of light in this visible world, and the immediate source of reason and truth in the intellectual; and that this is the power upon which he who would act rationally, either in public or private life must have his eye fixed”. In this quotation the world is an illusion and knowledge is what can set you free. In this allegory of the cave, men are imprisoned and are faced to a wall in the cave, all they see are shadows. They do not visualize the real thing they can only hear and see shadows which are reflected from a burning fire from behind them but they do not know of this.
As one man excapes, he see's a whole new world to explore. at first his eyes hurt because it's his first relization to sun when he comes back he wants to tell his friends. the prisoners in the cave cant econinze his shadow because it looks like everything else and therefore, they did not believe him. He was not use to these ways which made him miss his old abondenment and not being able to stay acoustom to the new life. This can intreact with my own individual experince.
As I was younger my parents where very strict on me. This means by staying home, never really having friends over or even going out with friends, take care of myself, cleaning up and basically doing my work for school. This kind of made me feel like a prisoner. I was use to this rountine in my house that all i saw was my family, books, and room. As I began to grow older my freedom was beginning to increase. I was able to go out and be with my friends but I never really was the one to hang out late I was always to myself a very shy person. My last year of high school I became outgoing and friendly. I started to interact and see a whole new world that I was missing out on.
I decided that I had to be social and have fun in my life and make time for my family, cleaning and so on. Therfore, as in Socrates' and Plato's Allegory the prisoner was acoustom to seeing shadows. At first the light hurt him when he escaped but he began to experince new things and enjoyed it but had nobody to enjoy it with. In my situation I was ajusted to being alone at home till this day but if it wasnt for me actually exploring my last year of high school by making new friends( seeing the loght)I would've became a loner.

blog 1.2 :My Hero's Quest.

Everyone is a Hero in several ways. I believe I ‘am a Hero, I had the calling of attending college. Being able to wake up and stay from eleven till eight at night. Was this my choice? Well yes because I believed I could major in accounting and make lots of money as I grow up. I had my mind focused into saving money or at least making enough money to support and raise my family. As I witness my family struggling from a day to day basis I wanted to achieve more than what they did. So I said I had to overcome this fantasy and make it reality. I had to stay committed to this Journey I was soon going to face. I had the support of my friends and family also, the push to achieve this goal.
My first day as my Hero's Journey started when I opened my eyes and entered my Threshold which was the doors to enter LaGuardia Community College. As I separated from the world of relaxation to working hard every day of my next couple of years, I realized that I had now entered my adult stage in life and there won’t be a lot of time to hang out and have fun all the time. Even though separating from my normal routine can be difficult it’s just something I must accomplish. From being lazy, relaxing to starting a whole new world brought new obstacles I had to face. This fantasy I was in all summer of staying home or just hanging around with friends/family was something I thought I would stay with forever but it wasn’t. I had to wake up and smell the coffee. This was not reality; reality was something I was going to face in the next couple of years as I enter LaGuardia.
There were some temptations of staying home to relax between classes or even before class started. The thought of just laying in bed instead of sitting in a class all day really hit me. But the wakeup call of my mother’s voice just builds me with more power to get up and attend my class is all that is needed to move along. Without this inspiration I think I would’ve still been in bed. Even the pressure of my being seventeen and needing those days to relax and be with my friends that I’m not going to have anymore. Having these long days really made me want to quit and break down inside. As my day goes on I find myself with more confidence in getting closer to either ending the day successfully or getting closer to the prize which is passing my classes.
As I return home I find myself relaxed and happy that I finished my task every day. From waking up to sitting, listening in each class helps me have more knowledge and can help others. Right now I’m pushing my friends to finish high school and even some finish college. It’s difficult for people to succeed in life without a good education and with me believing in myself to finish my hero’s journey in a daily basis I believe and want to push others to do the same.

Is Technology Dependent on Us?

Technology has become a big issue in today’s society. Everyone comes across several types of technology from day to day daily life. For example there are subways, cars, for transportation also; television, radios, cell phones and etc. Interaction with technology is a part of human society without we might suffer and not be able to survive. Therefore, as a individual I depend on electronics for contact, emergencies, and because I would not be able to survive.
Using my cell phone is something I depend on the most. First of all, it’s important for me to be able to contact family members or friends. What if one day I’m in a lot of trouble by being lost without any money, alone how would I get home? If money wasn’t made by electronic devices I would not be able to pay a cab or hop in the train to get home safely. Or how about if cars or subways where not made how would I get home probably by animal or walking because without electronic we would be living the old age basically cavemen/women ages.
We become very spoiled of technology us humans. We depend on it on a daily basis. There are other devices besides cell phones that are very important not only to me but i believe others. Computer usage is a huge effect on today's society. For example the social networks, myspace, facebook, etc. These are some major interent networks were people interact with eachother. Which to me is fun to find my friends and keep intouch with them but also makes us lazy. If everything is right there infront of us we become addicted to it and not let us go enjoy the outdoors by playing a sport. Which can also cause obesity.
Overall, Technology is a huge issue to today's society. We depend on all these devices which is very unhealthy for our mind and body. I admit I am very dependent on my electronics but I have to realize that it is not acceptable. We will not be able to survive without our elctronics. Do you believe this is good or bad?
